PHASE II - FUTURE PLANS

With the completion of Phase I, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation (MPCCF) continues to move forward on plans for Phase II construction. The MPCCF has embarked on a capital campaign and holds fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds to include a Performing Arts Center, Aquatics Center, and two community lounges within the unfinished second half of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center.

As part of its commitment to construct Phase II facilities, the MPCCF has taken on the responsibility of developing sustainable models for both the Performing Arts and Aquatics Centers. Separate committees for each center, made up with community members, are working with Bill Schlumpf of Island Structures Engineering, P.C. and others to develop architectural, management, operating and marketing plans to ensure the future success of each facility. (Click here to view the Mission and Vision statements for both committees.)

The MPCCF has recently contracted with ARTEC, a consulting firm specializing in design and planning services for performing arts centers. The Performing Arts Center Committee is currently working with ARTEC on the programming design phase of the future theater. This phase will help determine the community's wants and needs for the facility and will be integral in the development of the Performing Arts Center's architectural and operating plans.

FUTURE FACILITIES

The Performing Arts Center will be a living testimony to the importance and appreciation of the arts on the East End of Long Island. The state of the art facility will feature a 290-seat theater, back stage areas, the latest lighting and sound equipment, community space, and a glass-enclosed lobby reminiscient of the building's original Carl Fisher design. The facility will be positioned to become a destination of choice on Long Island for both performers and theatergoers.

The indoor Aquatics Center will provide our coastal community with recreational access to water year-round. The community will benefit greatly from the many opportunities that the 5-lane lap and recreation pools will offer. Programming opportunities for all ages could include swimming lessons and competition, fitness classes, family fun, water therapy and rehabilitation, and lifeguard training.

An active room, the North Lounge will offer a comfortable and safe setting for both youth and adults to gather, promoting multi-generational interaction. Game tables and couches will provide recreation and areas for small group gatherings, meetings, and other activities.

A quiet, peaceful space, the South Lounge will offer opportunities for reading, quiet reflection, card playing, and small gatherings. The Fisher-era fireplace will warm guests on cool nights, and the Craft Room will allow participants in both Senior and Youth programs to interact in a creative setting.

COSTS
Phase II construction is currently estimated at about $7 million. The MPCCF has committed to matching the $7 million that the Town of East Hampton put toward Phase I construction and rehabilitation. The MPCCF plans to raise funds through its capital campaign and fundraising events, and is actively seeking grants from corporations, government entities, individuals and private foundations.
