PHASE I - NOW OPEN On May 7, 2006, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation hosted a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center. After years of work to save the historic Montauk Playhouse and turn it into a community center, the Montauk community has much to celebrate.
Even before the formal Ribbon Cutting, several facilities within the Montauk Playhouse Community Center opened their doors for business. On the first floor, the nonprofit Montauk Child Care Center, East Hampton Town Adult Day Care Center, and the nonprofit Montauk Community Senior Nutrition Center all opened their doors in April 2006. On the second floor, the high-school sized Gymnasium is available for scheduling through the building manager. Body Tech Fitness Center and Manual and Sports Therapy are also open for business.
On the back side of the building, "Alexi's Place," a playground funded by Peter and Suse Lowenstein in memory of their son Alexi, has become a favorite spot for parents and children of all ages.

Supplementary funding comes from a $350,000 grant awarded to the Town of East Hampton by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for the initial restoration of the structure, and monies raised by the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation (MPCCF). |
