FOUNDATION INFORMATION

Mission
The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation (MPCCF) is a vision born out of the resolve to preserve and maintain a cherished historic building of the Carl Fisher era while enhancing the "spirit of community" in Montauk by fostering inclusion, innovation and stability; and by providing to people of all ages opportunities for recreational, social, cultural, educational and human services. It is the dream of the MPCCF to establish a center dedicated to serving the needs of families by providing affordable services such as child and senior day care, indoor recreational activities, and a center for the arts.

The MPCCF shall work with the Town of East Hampton and the Playhouse Advisory Committee in developing the plans for the renovation, reconstruction and implementation of the above facilities and programs; and the MPCCF shall endeavor to raise private funds to support these activities.

Background
The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation was formed in the spring of 1999 to fulfill its mission. It is a recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

In working to fulfill its mission, MPCCF continues to work to increase awareness of the Playhouse structure and the Community Center project and to help secure grants and other funding towards the completion of the entire community center.

Current Activities
With the opening of Human Services and Recreation facilities in the restored structure in April 2006, MPCCF is stepping up its efforts to raise funds needed to complete future construction, including the Aquatics and Performing Arts Centers. For future phases, MPCCF plans to raise funds to match the Town of East Hampton's commitment of $7 million toward the first phase of construction.

In February 2005, MPCCF hired a nonprofit consultant, Marc Saffren of m3 Development, who is working with MPCCF to develop a capital campaign and yearly giving opportunities to fund future phases of the community center project. In addition, MPCCF plans fundraising events throughout the year, including the Annual Harbor Lights Gala at the Montauk Lake Club.

Executive Board members serve a one-year term (current Executive Board will serve through December 2008) and are entreated with overseeing the daily operations of the MPCCF.

The MPCCF also has one part-time staff. Our Project Director, Maureen Rutkowski, manages our day-to-day operations and works closely with our Board Members and general membership to ensure that all aspects of the MPCCF run smoothly.

Playhouse Advisory Committee/Board of Managers
Soon after the Playhouse building was donated to the Town of East Hampton, the Town Board appointed a group of Montauk's citizens to the Playhouse Advisory Committee to develop a comprehensive use plan for the Playhouse building.

The Advisory Committee was instrumental in recommending what services and facilities should be offered at the Community Center and has been working closely with the Bill Schlumpf of Island Structures Engineering to develop architectural and operating plans to meet the needs and wants of Montauk and its surrounding communities.

On January 1, 2006, the Advisory Committee dissolved, and the Board of Managers, made up of MPCCF and community members, Town staff, and others began meeting to set the management structure and policies for the Montauk Playhouse Community Center. The Board of Managers meets regularly.
