Phase II: Growing to Meet the Needs of our Diverse and Growing Community
With so many vital social services now up and running at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center, the Board of Directors of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center (Foundation) is hard at work planning for Phase II – the construction of a performing arts center, an aquatics center and community rooms. The Foundation envisions a host of new arts and athletic programs as well as collaborations with regional organizations to better serve our community, welcome our neighbors, and create quality programs and jobs that help strengthen the community.
Business Planning
With the hire of Strategic Management Consulting (SMC) and Webb Management Services (WMS) this past year, the Foundation embarked on a market analysis and feasibility study to move forward with Phase II.
Through dozens of interviews with community groups, residents and visitors; tours of regional facilities; and extensive research, WMS found that the project’s challenge, and its strength, is the combination of three different spaces (a pool, a theater, and multipurpose rooms) for different users of the facility (permanent residents, seasonal residents, and visitors). WMS determined that Montauk could support both the aquatics and theater components of the Phase II effort, and that the diversity of revenue streams and audiences made the project financially viable. The aquatics center and theater, which attract different year-round audiences and users, create a true community resource for Montauk and neighboring communities.
Next, SMC conducted a Fundraising Feasibility Study to determine successful strategies for planning a capital campaign and building volunteer leadership. While there is more work ahead, SMC’s study confirmed that there is a powerful constituency of local and part-time residents who will work diligently to realize the dream of a completed community center in the heart Montauk.
Support the Project: Be a Part of this Exciting Growth
There are many ways to help the project. While outright gifts are most immediately helpful to the Foundation, contributions can be made in a variety of ways, such as multiple-year pledges, appreciated securities, matching gifts, or bequests, among others. Many of these offer substantial tax, estate planning, and other financial benefits. The Foundation welcomes the opportunity to meet with you and your advisors to discuss how you can include us in your charitable plans. All discussions will be held in the strictest of confidence.
The Foundation also needs volunteers to serve as ambassadors and help with events. If you’d like to get involved, please call Maureen Rutkowski at 631.668.1124.
