The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation, Inc. (MPCCF) was created in 1999 to save the historic Montauk Playhouse and to create a space in Montauk for indoor recreation, needed Human Services programming and cultural activities.
Through the efforts of the entire community, the Montauk Playhouse has been restored, and facilities and services within half of the structure opened in spring 2006. The Montauk Playhouse Community Center’s 24,000 square feet of finished space house a child day care center, a senior nutrition center, an adult day care center, a high-school regulation-sized gymnasium, a fitness center and a physical therapy practice.
Plans are in place to develop an additional 24,000 square feet within the Community Center with a 299-seat Performing Arts Center, an Aquatics Center with lap and recreation pools, and community rooms. The MPCCF is working to raise the estimated $7 million needed to construct the planned facilities.
MPCCF holds several fundraisers throughout the year, and in 2009, MPCCF celebrates the 80th Anniversary of the Montauk Playhouse with several special Community Outreach Events.
