Veterans Honored at Flag Ceremony

Vets Day 09 013Many came out to honor our Veterans and troops today at the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Flag Ceremony at the Suzanne Koch Gosman Memorial Garden at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center. The ceremony was both somber and uplifting. At the start of the ceremony, Foundation President, Joan Lycke, led a moment of silence for the victims of the Fort Hood shootings and gave thanks to all those who have fought for our freedoms. Local Boy Scouts Matthew Feit, Jack Lycke, and Brendan Snow then raised the flag, while Scout troops, families, Veterans and others watched at attention. All pledged their allegiance to the flag and were then led in patriotic song by Lori Hubbard.

At the end of the ceremony, all were invited in to the Community Center for donuts, juice and coffee. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to mingle with our Veterans and learn about why we honor our Veterans on this day. Many, many thanks to all who serve our country and to all who attended today’s ceremony.
